Lugger Floor boards

When a client required new deck boards for his Drascombe lugger he asked if I was interested in supplying them. With my back ground in boat building I was more than happy to oblige.

Knowing the clients interest in sustainability and recycling I took this into consideration when sourcing suitable materials for the project.

Once the Timber had been machined to size.  The planks were selected for each board.

Care was taken to work around any previous holes in the timber.

The old boards were used as templates their pattern and design copied.

A traditional draw Knife was used to remove the timber fast and efficiently before finishing with a spoke shave. The spoke shave was one of the first tool I bought as a apprentice 37 years ago.

Reclaimed Burmese Teak salvaged from a off shore platform was the perfect timber for the job. In its first life it had been the deck of a water intake platform for a nuclear power station since 1965.

Testament to the timbers resilience to the ravages of time and the weather. Once cleaned up it is as good to day as it was then.
